Dental implants: what to ask at your consultation

A practical starting point for a conversation about replacing missing teeth.

Dental Registry editorial · 23 October 2026 · 3 min read

Start with the problem you want to solve

Before asking about an implant brand or a treatment package, explain how your missing teeth affect eating, comfort or confidence. Ask your dentist to compare the available options, which may include a bridge or dentures as well as implants. A treatment choice should follow an examination and a discussion of your circumstances.

Understand the whole treatment plan

Ask your clinician to explain each proposed stage, what investigations are needed and whether additional procedures are being considered. Request a written plan identifying who will provide the treatment, the expected appointments and how the final replacement teeth will be maintained. Avoid assuming that a headline package describes everything you personally need.

Leave with questions answered

Useful questions include: What alternatives do I have? What risks apply to me? Who handles a problem between appointments? What is included in the quote? If you travel for care, clarify how follow-up will work after you return home. Take time to consider the answers before committing.
